The public is invited to comment on proposed plans for improving Shore Road Promenade, Poole.
Shore Road is a major gateway for people visiting Poole’s beaches but is suffering with outdated infrastructure. Improvements here aim to create a space that is more attractive, vibrant and provides a warm welcome. Proposals include a new watersports centre, beach office and catering outlet, refurbished toilets and showers combined with improvements to seating and landscaping of the public areas in keeping with the surrounding area.
Improvement works at Shore Road are expected to cost £650,000 and are part of the Borough of Poole’s £6.6m seafront regeneration programme. This includes £1.2m support from the Coastal Communities Fund through the Dorset Coastal Connections portfolio to renovate the public spaces at four sites along Poole’s seafront, including Flaghead Chine, Branksome Chine and Canford Cliffs.
Councillor John Challinor, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure said “These are exciting times and with the funding in place for improving Shore Road, we look forward to hearing the opinions and suggestions of the public. I encourage anyone who enjoys this beautiful area of Poole to come along and get involved.”
Nikki Parker-Goadsby, Dorset Coastal Connections Project Officer said, “We are delighted to be involved with this project and I am looking forward to hearing the views from the community and visitors to Shore Road on their thoughts and comments about the proposed designs, which aim to enhance this already prestigious location on Poole Seafront and make it more beautiful with improved facilities that can be enjoyed by so many people. Your views will guide the design team in finalising the Shore Road designs before submitting the planning application.”
Come along to view and comment on proposed plans and talk to the design team on Thursday 14 June as Shore Road Promenade plays host to a drop-in event between 10am – 7pm.
You can also view the plans online https://seafront.pooleprojects.net/shore-road/ from Thursday 14 until Friday 22 June. Plans will also be on display at Sandbanks Beach Office from 15 - 22 June.
A planning application will be submitted in June. If approved, building works would start Autumn-Winter 2018/19.
