Makeover of shopping centre car park completed

Visitors to the Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole can now enjoy better car parking facilities following a £900,000 investment by Borough of Poole.

The council has completed the second phase of extensive repairs and improvements to the 1,160 space multi-storey car park at the shopping centre.

In addition to essential concrete repairs to the ceilings, columns and floors, new low-energy lighting has been installed, the exterior of the car park has been painted and signage and line markings improved to create a brighter and more welcoming facility.

The refurbishment follows on from the previous phase of repairs which cost £1.1 million and saw the refurbishment of the top deck of the customer car park last year.

Julian McLaughlin, Head of Growth and Infrastructure, Borough of Poole, said: “Over the last few years we have been carrying out a co-ordinated programme to repair Poole’s town centre car parks. We have completed the refurbishment of both Shoppers 1 and 2 and we have now finished the works to the whole of the Dolphin Shopping Centre multi-storey car park creating a brighter, modern-looking customer facility. The car park remained open throughout the work and we made a lot of effort to ensure there were sufficient parking spaces available to meet public demand while we carried out the repairs and improvements.”

Cllr Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: “The council is committed to maintaining Poole Town Centre’s infrastructure and supports the significant regeneration planned in the town centre which will not only benefit our residents but will help attract visitors to the area.”
